Will my painting look exactly like the one online?
Pretty much. What you're looking at here are photos of each artwork. Because of individual monitor settings, there's no way to get a 100% exact match, but Annie doesn't juice the shots with Photoshop. (We're not saying anybody else does. Just know that Annie doesn't.) What you're seeing now is as close as humanly possible to what you'll see with the naked eye.
How was each piece of art originally created?
With a lot of patience and a little luck. Seriously, though, the very first iteration is always a digital artwork delivered by one specific AI that Annie nicknamed "O" based on the way that the AI started to sign some of its works. In fact, the crooked "O" in the logo is the first letter of the incredibly cool signature the machine developed over time.
Annie trained O. on key concepts, then moved forward from there by gradually moving the machine in certain directions. Once O. made something about 80% done, Annie printed the file and used acrylic paint for corrections and enhancements. These originals (which are technically artist's proofs) are what was photographed and posted on this site. Because the process is repeatable, they're almost a 100% match to what's going to show up at your door.
How are these limited edition canvas prints made?
Each one is a giclee print on canvas, which Annie touches up with acrylic paint. Because of the acrylic, it can be hard to tell you're looking at a print and not a painting. Each piece is then sprayed with a light coat of lacquer for a professional finish.
What is giclee?
Giclee is an incredibly durable, vibrant ink. It delivers true colors that don't fade and is part of what makes this art affordable.
How do you pronounce this wonder ink?
It's pronounced zhee-KLAY, but if you want to sayGICK-lee, go ahead. It's more fun that way.
Do the sizes listed include the frames?
Both canvas size and total frame size are listed on the check out page, but in most places on the site, you'll only see the canvas size. These are standard sizes and are always written in inches. The frames add roughly another inch and a half on each side – top, bottom, left, and right – and are an inch and a quarter deep.
Because sizes vary so much for gift shop items, both the size of the print and the total framed size are listed in all places.
How is the artwork shipped?
FedEx or UPS.
How long will it take for me to get my art?
Because every piece is made to order, 2 to 4 weeks from the time you place your order to delivery is typical. There's an option at checkout that skips you to the front of the line and shaves a week or two off total time, but it does cost a little extra. Unless the clock really is ticking – maybe you're giving a gift or you're redoing your home on a deadline – we recommend sticking with the regular process. Except for rush jobs, we handle each order as they come in, so rest assured that you'll receive your artwork as soon as possible, securely packed and ready to hang.
Can I ship the art back if I don't like it?
If you're unhappy with your purchase, you can cancel as long as your art hasn’t been shipped. If your art is already winging its way to you, you have 7 days from the arrival of your piece to start the return process by emailing annie@annieknowsart.com. As long as the art hasn't been damaged after arrival, we'll take it back, but you need to pay for return shipping using the carrier of your choice provided that carrier can provide a tracking number. Send the tracking information to Annie via email and your purchase price will be refunded within 5 business days.
